Agricultural waterways Renovation Improvement Works for Re-zoning Areas of Early Agricultural Land

  • Date:2016-05-20
Area:In the early years of the ROC relocating to Taiwan (before the 1971), to complete agricultural land consolidation, the costs of construction and land use for agricultural waterways land all had be borne by the farmers. At that time, to take the ability of farmers to afford the costs into account and to adapt to the needs of the agricultural environment of the day, the width of agricultural roads in farmland was set at just 2.5 to 3 meters, and road surfaces were all uncovered. Most waterways running parallel to roads were also earthen surfaced channels with no internal work carried out on them and no protective work. Owing to long years of erosion and disrepair, they would lose their functionality. Due to the changes in the agricultural environment in recent years, the agricultural machinery and vehicle models introduced being larger than in the past, and to the boom in the rural economy and increased motor vehicle traffic, to meet the demands of modern agriculture in terms of operational scale, the government believed it was indeed necessary for agricultural land consolidation zones completed in early years to be subject to a second instance of land consolidation. In 1988, the Bureau began to carry out preliminary planning, engineering design and construction supervision work for agricultural waterway upgrading and improvement engineering work in early agricultural land consolidation zones. As of the end of March, 2016, preliminary planning and engineering design for a total of 828 zones had been completed, covering an area of 89,515 hectares, and construction supervision had been carried out in 587 zones, with an area of 71,173 hectares, a significant performance with work results winning praise from various sectors of society.
